ERDENE ZUU MONASTERY

•First Buddhist Monastery of Mongolia

•Established by Zanabazar – First Mongolian Lama in 1585

•Located near the Karakorum – Ancient Capital of Genghis Khan

•Today its a World Heritage Site and a museum

THE GREAT WHITE LAKE

•Also known as Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur in Mongolian.

•Called Great White Lake by locals as the lake completely freezes in winters and becomes white

•Home to variety of birds

LAKE HUVSGUL

•Largest Fresh Water Lake of Mongolia with area of 2760 sq.kms.

•Considered to be a part of Lake Baikal in Russia

•More than 2 Million Years Old – One of the 17 Ancient Lakes of the world

•Home to various species like musk deer, brown bear, ibex, Siberian moose, argali, elk, wolf, sable and more.

Accommodation
  • Hotels in Ulaanbaatar city: A wide range of domestic and international chain hotels, ranging from 1 to 5*, are offer in the capital city. These include: Shangri La, Best Western, Ramada, Kempinski hotel etc.

  • Ger is a Mongolian traditional dwelling made of felt layers and wooden construction. Ger camp is similar to hotel system – a private Ger equals as a room. Ger camps are equipped with shared dining ger/house and Western style bathroom facilities.

  • There are some en-suite gers with private bathroom facilities inside are available (with additional cost). Ger camps operate seasonally.  

  • Local hotels are offered in the countrysides during off season as a substitute for Ger camps. The standards are quite basic– about same level as guest houses

REACHING  MONGOLIA
  • International flights: Turkish Airlines, Korean Air, Aeroflot & Air China as well as Mongolian own flag carrier MIAT operate international flights to Mongolia

  • Train-Siberian railway: Connects Russia, China & Mongolia

  • Domestic flights:  There are only 2 domestics airlines, Aero Mongolia and Hunnu Air, operates within Mongolia.  Main domestic flights include: Gobi in the South, Lake Huvsgul in the north and Eagle trainer tribe in the Western part of Mongolia

  • Domestics flights to Gobi & Lake Huvsgul  are only available Mid May through Mid Sep (3-4 times a week)

  • Note: 10+5kg luggage allowed for the domestic flights. However, clients can pay for their extra luggage which is 0,5$ per kilo

  • Roads And Transport: Roughly 20% of Mongolian 54000 km road is paved and the rest is dirt road. As Mongolian climate is harsh and extreme, it makes the paved roads bumpy and cracked very easily. Furthermore, you will not find many road sign in Mongolian countryside.

  • National parks: In most cases, there are no roads or walking signs in the national park. Wildlife is abundant in these parks but spotting them should not be promised. Sighting of only the wild horse (aka Takhi) at Hustai national park should be guaranteed in the programs
